The myth of the Spanish gypsy woman created by Prosper Mérimée in his famous novel ‘Carmen’, was the reading inspiration source for this typeface. It was commissioned for a new edition of Mérimée’s romantic novel.
In the public local mind, Carmen character has been used to represent the exotic and inalienable beauty of the gypsy woman, with olive-colored skin and voluptuous sensuality. Carmen typeface is the personification of that beauty but translated into alphabet shapes: A high contrasted Neoclassical typeface with sweet rounded terminals and light strokes as fine as golden threads. Its Italics, slightly inclined and rounded, soft and even fragile, approaches the text as a dance performance.
